Capitol Baptist Church is an independent Baptist church located in Delaware's capitol city. The church began in June 1965 when two Air Force families began meeting in their own homes. For the next two years, the small congregation met in a home they purchased to serve as their meeting quarters. On Easter Sunday of 1968, the congregation moved into a building constructed by volunteers during the previous year. By the fall of 1971, a Christian school was established as a part of the ministry of Capitol Baptist Church.
For decades, our church has strived to maintain an emphasis on preaching, evangelism, discipleship, missions, conservative music, and building strong families. Though we have one message (the message of the Lord Jesus Christ) and one ministry (the ministry to preach the gospel to every creature), we have a number of various ministries to assist in accomplishing our goals of propagating the gospel.
Located in central Delaware, Capitol Baptist Church is easily accessible from all directions. We are located less than 15 miles from the Maryland state line and just minutes from the Dover Air Force Base. As an independent Baptist church, we are an autonomous congregation. We are self-governing and self-supporting. The head of the church is the Lord Jesus Christ, and the Bible is our sole authority for faith and practice. It is our desire to be a true New Testament church.
